PM Surya Ghar Yojana
The Government of India has approved the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana on 29th February, 2024 to increase the share of solar rooftop capacity and empower residential households to generate their own electricity.
The scheme has an outlay of Rs 75,021 crore and is to be implemented till FY 2026-27.
Under the scheme, the DISCOMs shall be required to put in place several facilitative measures for promotion of rooftop solar in their respective areas such as availability of net meters, timely inspection and commissioning of installations, vendor registration and management.
Central Govt Subsidy:
Currently the subsidy for 1kW system is Rs. 30,000.00, for 2kW system Rs. 60,000.00 and Rs 78,000 for 3kW systems or higher. The subsidy has been capped at 3kW capacity. CGHS can avail subsidy of Rs. 18,000.00 per kW upto 500 kW.

- The applicant must be an Indian citizen.
- The applicant must own a house/ flat with a roof that is suitable for installing solar panels.
- The applicant must have a valid electricity connection.
- The applicant must not have availed of any other subsidy for solar panels.
- The applicant must have valid bank account.
- Free electricity: Households can get free electricity from the solar panels they install.
- Reduced electricity costs: Households can save money on their electricity bills.
- Increased renewable energy: More people can use renewable energy due to subsidy benefits.
- Reduced carbon emissions: Solar energy can help reduce our carbon footprint
- First, the interested consumer has to register on the National Portal. This has to be done by selecting the state and the electricity distribution company.
- The National Portal will assist the households by providing relevant information such as appropriate system size and, benefits.
- The consumers can choose the vendor and proceed with the installation of the Roof Top Solar unit they wish to get installed.
